About the Department

The Department of Psychology was established in the Year 1971. The Department is well known for its excellence in academic and research programs in various areas of Psychology. Activities of the Department have reflected a marked growth over the last few decades. The Department has been updating curriculum that allows students to pursue the extensive breadth of psychology in terms of behavioural phenomena studied, the variety of methods and theoretical approaches employed. The curriculum also provides excellent opportunities for research experience in the form of practicum and by participation in a wide variety of research projects. Throughout the curriculum, the Department emphasizes empirical basis of interventions and assessment methods for an all-round development of the students. Also the Department is devoted to train students to advance theory and create knowledge that helps to address the real world problems. The Department provides an internship program to bridge academic learning of theory with community application of knowledge. Beyond the academics the Department also conducts seminars, workshops, academic field tours and talks with eminent personalities. The main objective of organizing different activities is to promote and develop the scientific outlook and professionalism in the discipline of psychology and more importantly to exchange views, experiences and mutual consultation amongst all stakeholders. One of the most important feature of the Department is community services through its Psychological Counselling Cell. The counselling services aim at helping students reach personal, learning and career concerns and promote success and wellness. The Cell offers free counselling to students and employees of University departments as well as of constituent colleges. The Cell is well equipped with relaxation room and psychometric testing laboratory.


Infrastructural Facilities

The Department has its own well-equipped computer laboratory with LCD projector. The faculty members have internet facility and well equipped separate rooms.
